Frank Lloyd Wright: Unpacking the Archive

Edited by Barry Bergdoll and Jennifer Gray, this publication celebrates the transfer of Wright’s rich archives from the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation Archives at Taliesin West, Arizona, to The Museum of Modern Art and Avery Architectural & Fine Arts Library, Columbia University in New York City. This beautiful book brings together drawings and photographs from Wright’s practice alongside essays from a diverse group of historians and artists, each of whom was asked to “unpack” a project or topic from Wright’s vast oeuvre. Published for a major exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art, the book and exhibition helped to open up Wright’s work to questions, interrogations and debates, and to highlight interpretations by contemporary scholars.

Barry Bergdoll delivered the Center’s Second Annual Bauder Lecture, “Unpacking Frank Lloyd Wright’s Archive and Career,” at Cranbrook on April 8, 2018.
